RUGER PRECISION RIFLE UPGRADES
Is the Ruger Precision Rifle a great bolt action right out of the box? Definitely. Can you make it better with a few simple, easy to install upgrades? Well, yeah!
Obviously, we love Ruger Precision Rifles. We shoot them for fun, competition, and we've even taken them hunting. They're a fantastic rifle as they come from the factory, and you could just leave well enough alone. But what fun is that? Fortunately, the RPR was designed with modular construction that makes it really easy to upgrade. Over the years of our experience with RPRs we've learned a thing or two about what works, so we've put together a list of 10 awesome upgrades for your Ruger Precision. That said, here we go…
Catalyst Arms Magazine Release Extension
Ok, yes we're biased but this is the product that actually started catalyst arms. It’s one of the best least expensive upgrades you can make to your Ruger Precision Rifle. It dramatically improves the function of the factory magazine release. It’s really simple to install, and frankly it takes longer to explain it than it does just to do it. If you don't have one of these already, definitely give it a look.

Fluted Titanium Bolt Shroud
Next on the list is the Anarchy Outdoors Fluted Titanium Bolt Shroud. Why replace the factory bolt shroud? Because it's not great. The factory bolt shroud is loose, it's anodized aluminum, and it doesn't fit the bolt very well. It also rattles and it makes noise. We've actually had one come loose and then move back and forth in the stock when we work the action. We like this fluted titanium version from Anarchy Outdoors. Why? Well, it’s titanium. That alone probably makes the rifle at least a half MOA more accurate, right? Kidding aside this bolt shroud is a great upgrade. It's much tighter than the factory bolt shroud, it doesn't rattle around and make noise. It'll stay on the bolt, and it's polished smooth so it's much smoother when you work the action. It also includes a stainless-steel bolt take down tool which is threaded into the back much more securely than the plastic takedown tool that's attached to the factory bolt shroud. Any of the anarchy outdoors bolt shrouds are going to be a recommended upgrade. This titanium one's not cheap but, come on…titanium!

Anarchy Outdoors Stainless Steel, Heat Treated Firing Pin
Number three on the list is the Anarchy Outdoors stainless-steel, heat-treated firing pin. The factory firing pin can possibly fail after about 1800 rounds. We're going to be using this gun in competition so it's going to see a high round count. We replaced the firing pin on the 6mm Creedmoor RPR we’ve been using in competition.

Anarchy Outdoors Stainless Steel Bolt Handle
While the firing pins out we're replaced the factory crank with the stainless steel machined version It's a little bit more ergonomic and we like it.

Catalyst Arms Hammerhead Bolt Knob
The Hammerhead is the original, ergonomic bolt knob for precision rifles including the RPR. Like our Magazine Release Extension, this is one of the best, least expensive upgrades you can make to the Ruger Precision Rifle. The teardrop shape of the factory bolt knob literally guides your hand onto the bolt handle when working the action. It’s not good. It’s also kind of small for the rifle, and it's kind of difficult to grab, in particular if your hands are wet or cold or muddy. The design of the Hammerhead with its waist captures the hand and prevents it from sliding up onto the bolt handle. The length and size make it much easier to grab, and the aggressive knurling makes it easier to get a better grip. The extra leverage also helps work the action. This is just a really great, super simple to install upgrade for your Ruger Precision Rifle.

Catalyst Arms Fast Track, Arca Rail Handguard
This is a major upgrade for your RPR. The factory handguard is round. You don't want that for a precision rifle. The fast track has a flat bottom and flat side that makes it much more stable when shooting off of bags, packs and other objects. The integrated arc rail lets you clamp directly into a tripod. It also lets you move your bipod back and forth the entire length of the rail so you can adjust for terrain or other objects so you can shoot fully supported. A very important note about the Fast Track, you don't need to loosen the barrel nut, you will not affect head space by installing the Fast Track.

The Timney Two-Stage Trigger
The factory trigger isn't bad, but the Timey is better. It's a more traditional adjustable trigger without a center dongle thingy. It just gives a much better feel. It’s easy to install. Definitely check it out.

The Little Bastard Muzzlebrake from American Precision Arms
The factory brake isn't bad, but the Little Baster is better enough to make a difference. You can easily see your impacts and make your corrections. It’s also to install. Simply line it up however you at the ports oriented, and then tighten it down with a lock nut.
The Apex Bag Rider
The Apex Bag Rider is available for both the factory RPR stock as well as the Ruger Precision Rimfire rifle! The angle of the apex bag rider lets you adjust your point of aim up or down simply by sliding your rear bag forward or back this comes in really handy during matches, on the bench or hunting.

The Anarchy Outdoors Scope Base with Bubble Level
Topping off the list is the scope base with bubble level. For those that don't know, when shooting long range it's really important that your rifle is level, otherwise the center line of your bore can get offset from the center line of your scope. This will translate to a point of impact error downrange. Fortunately installing the bubble level scope base is really simple, just remove the factory rail. use the fasteners that came with the factory rail, and simply install the scope base with bubble level. You will want to torque the fasteners to 25 inch pounds. Definitely check out our other RPR setup videos where we talk about adjusting length-of-pull, how to properly mount a scope, as well as going over the fasteners to make sure they're torqued to factory specifications.
